Adding video to your website can make all the difference
To say that I recommend adding video to your website is an understatement. Adding video to your website will help you in so many ways.
- Video creates a personal connection with your site visitors – When someone visits your site, they get to hear your voice, see your face and they get to enter into your world. There is no better way to connect with someone than through video.
- Video increases the “Time on Site” statistic – One thing that search engines look for when reading and indexing your website is how long people stay. “Time on Site” measures the exact amount of time a person stays on your site before clicking away to another site. This analytic tells them if your site was what the visitor was looking for when they searched a certain keyword term. If the average time on site is higher, then the search engine will believe that your site is delivering the results from that particular search.
- Video is as inexpensive to produce as photo – If you are going to take the time to add pictures, then why are you not adding video? Video is no more expensive to produce, and no more time-consuming. I purchased a video camera from Amazon and have had some amazing results from it. The camera costs $180 and has stellar picture quality.
- My recommendation for video – I recommend that you produce one video per month that explores an aspect of your business. The first month, you might do a “Welcome/Introduction” video. The second month, a video that explores what it is like to use your services. If you run a camp, then video an aspect of that camp. If you are a photographer, then show yourself working with a client during a portrait session.
What camera to get?
The camera I recommend is below. When choosing a camera, I wanted something that had great picture quality, was easy to use and had the ability to record to a hard drive. I found this camera and it is great. Put it on a little tripod and start shooting your videos.
What if my video is not “professional” enough?
Video that you produce doesn’t have to be “professional” to be effective. Clean out your living room, removing all distracting items from the background. Then, sitting on your couch, record your introduction video. Simple. People don’t want to see professional, polished productions. Want proof? Go to YouTube sometime. It is one of the most popular sites on the web and it is filled with unpolished, unprofessional videos. It is captivating.
People who are visiting your website want to know about you and your business.
What kinds of things can I put on my website?
- Welcome Video / Introduction Video
- Testimonials or Interviews with clients about their experience with your company
- “Experience” videos. What is it like to use your service?
- Special offer videos. These might be short “take advantage of this” offers.
- Outtakes. While not for your main section, outtakes show the human side of us. Do you have something funny that you captured? Put it on the site.
