Building Web Site on the Street

  Email Marketing

Do you have a mailing list that you want to build or market to?  Do you understand the CAN-SPAM laws?  Not knowing them could cost you big time if you want to maintain a mailing list with your business or non-profit.  Email marketing is legal, but you need to make sure that you are doing it right.

Many hosting companies will remove your site from their service if they get just one complaint, so you want to be very careful when contemplating an email marketing campaign.

A better solution

So how do you maintain a mailing list without violating the law?  How do you keep in touch with your client or donor base?  The best way is to use a service that specializes in email marketing.  These services have a staff that keeps them compliant with the laws, they track the success of each campaign that you send and most importantly, they keep you from getting charged with a crime.

There are two companies that I have used and both are really good.  The first is Aweber who is more of a total marketing company.  They specialize in helping businesses who sell something via the web.  They focus on autoresponders, automated sign-ups, and follow-up.

The second is Constant Contact who would be great for non-profits who are looking to create a newsletter type list and stay in contact with their donors and supporters.

Try one of these two companies and you will get great service and protect yourself from breaking the law.
