In this lesson, you will learn about how to evaluate a paid link site. Google has some specifics on paid links and has a way to report them inside the Webmasters panel. Specifically we are answering a question about Bride1 (dot) com and whether they are worth paying $29 per year for. They aren’t.
Alexa and goggle links say I have 4 links. I know I have many more links on blogs and other pages. Anything I can do about that?
No one exactly knows Alexa's standards for listing a link. There are so many variables to it. My first suggestion would be to claim your website through their process: http://www.alexa.com/siteowners
Also, to know for sure that your links will go up, follow the instructions in the Alexa video. It stands to reason that if you identify a link on Alexa that points to one of your competitors and you get linked on the very same page, then Alexa will recognize that new link (because they recognize it for your competitor)
I've been doing the link building thing and posted to many blogs, but how come it won't come up on Alexa or Yahoo Site Explorer?
Each search engine like Alexa and Google takes time to update their index. It could take 30-60 days (or more) for them to recognize that your link is there. Be patient and keep working...
Where are my links?
Is there any downside to getting 20 links in a single evening? Is that too fast?
There is not a downfall to getting that many links in one evening. The reason: Google won't read all of those sites on the same evening. What I mean is that though you load your link onto those sites in one evening, the Google spider won't be around that same evening to read and index the site. It may come to one site once a day and another once an hour and another once a week. Just never know.
What is keyword "anchor text"?
Link anchor text is the words that are used to link back to a particular website. Do you see the difference in these two links?
Both point to the exact same place, however the second one uses keyword anchor text. Whenever possible, you should be using keyword anchor text to point back to your site.
Do I have to ask them to link me in a certain place or the location doesn’t matter as long as it’s within their website?
The link does matter. The very best place would be on the HOME page. From there, you would choose a top level page. Thus, a page that has an address like www.theirsite.com/the-page-where-your-link-is
So, if it is on the home page, that is best. If it is on a deeper page, you want that page to be one click from the home page.
Is it more helpful to have multiple links from a single site or a single link from multiple sites?
The short answer is that it depends. Let's say that you have a link from the home page of a website like www.stylemepretty.com. SMP has a Google Page Rank of 6, which is HUGE. One link from their home page as a featured photographer is worth more than about 100 links from PageRank 1 websites.
Assuming that all of the websites in your question were the exact same in Google's eyes as far as PageRank and trust, then the single link from multiple sites would be way better. But if the single site has a much higher ranking and trust then multiple links from the single site would be better.
